SMU becomes SMAH

The RCGP Substance Misuse Unit has changed its name to the RCGP Substance Misuse and Associated Health (SMAH)!

Dr Linda Harris, the Clinical Director of the SMAH writes;

"The name change takes into account the rapidly increasing portfolio of educational programmes that sit underneath its umbrella. Those GPs and primary care professionals working in the substance misuse field will be well aware of the impact of the introduction of the reforms detailed in the NHS and Public Health white papers, as well as the 2010 Drugs Strategy. The National Treatment Agency will be moving into Public Health England, and drug and alcohol treatment and other public health behaviour change areas will be brought together.
Over the past year my colleagues and I have been working on a new strategy that will see SMAH's educational programmes modularised. This will lead into a published programme of modules that will form a comprehensive portfolio, mapping to competencies and skills."

Now I will have to change all my paperwork..........
